"Leadership is about turning pain into purpose and making sure no one is left behind."
Ocewana Baker is an advocate, entrepreneur, community leader, and candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates in District 2B. Raised between New York City and Maryland, Ocewana's life has been shaped by two communities that taught her the value of diversity, resilience, and public service. Growing up with experiences in both one of America's largest cities and the communities of Western Maryland gave her a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing people from all walks of life. As a Jewish American and transgender woman, she understands firsthand the importance of protecting civil rights, defending vulnerable communities, and ensuring every person is treated with dignity and respect. Ocewana is also a survivor of sexual assault. Rather than allowing that experience to define her, she has used it as motivation to speak out for survivors, advocate for stronger support systems, and push for policies that prioritize mental health, victim services, and community safety. Her story is one of overcoming adversity and transforming hardship into action. Throughout her career, Ocewana has used her voice to advocate for those who often feel unheard. Whether through community organizing, public advocacy, or grassroots engagement, she has remained committed to fighting for everyday Marylanders. Today, she is running for the Maryland House of Delegates because she believes government should work for the people, not special interests, and because every resident deserves a representative who understands real-life struggles and is willing to fight for meaningful change.
What Ocewana Is Fighting For:

Ocewana's career has been defined by advocacy, service, and a commitment to helping others overcome adversity. As a sexual assault advocate and trauma recovery counselor, she has worked directly with survivors, helping them navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Through this work, she has witnessed firsthand the importance of accessible mental health care, victim support services, and community based resources. These experiences have strengthened her belief that government has a responsibility to ensure survivors and vulnerable individuals have the support they need to heal and thrive. In addition to her advocacy work, Ocewana has served as an entrepreneur, public speaker, activist, and community leader. Her diverse experiences have given her a deep understanding of the challenges facing working families, marginalized communities, and those struggling to access critical services. She believes elected officials should do more than talk about problems they should work alongside their communities to solve them. That belief is at the heart of her campaign and her commitment to serving the people of District 2B.
